As you know dudes n' grrrls we love our Slow Cooker recipes. If you don't own a Slow Cooker already, we highly suggestion you picking one up. They're cheap and help you create healthy food with ease. Having said that, this recipe is our newest (and favorite) Slow Cooker recipe! What easier way to cook a whole chicken than to throw it in a bit with a few spices, come back a few hours later and have a feast for a whole family? (Or maybe just one very hungry Buff Dude)

Either way, we know you'll love it! Now let's get started...

  • Whole Chicken (approximately 5 lbs)
  • 1 large yellow onion - sliced
  • Spice Rub-
  • 1 t. Salt & Pepper
  • 2t. Paprika
  • 1/2 t. Cayenne pepper
  • 1t. Onion powder
  • 1t. Garlic powder
  • 1t. Mrs. Dash (or any brand of no salt seasoning)

Drizzle a little oil in your Crock Pot. Place your sliced onions in a layer on the oil. (this will be the "bed" your chicken will rest on)

We removed the skin from the chicken. With a small knife, carefully cut underneath the skin as you pull it away from the chicken.  It took maybe 5 minutes. We left the skin on the wings. This way your rub goes directly onto the meat. Plus we're cutting out more fat and calories.

Rince your chicken and pat it dry.

Next mix your Spice Rub ingredients into a small bowl then with your hands start rubbing it all over your chicken.

Once it's completely covered lay it breast side down on to the bed of onions.

Put your lid on and start your Crock Pot.

Low 5 to 6 hours or High 3 to 4 hours.

You won't need to add any fluids....The chickens natural juices will come out.

Number of servings 5 to 6

Serving size 4 oz (112g) with 1 oz (28g) of onion slices

Enjoy!
